The Extreme Light Infrastructure ERIC (ELI ERIC) is the world’s largest and most advanced high-power laser research infrastructure. As an international user facility dedicated to multi-disciplinary science, ELI provides access to world-class high-power, high-repetition-rate laser systems and enables cutting-edge research, as well as breakthrough technological innovations. ELI Beamlines Facility operates four cutting-edge high-power femtosecond laser systems reaching unprecedented intensities. The operational laser systems make unique femtosecond sources of X-rays and accelerated particles available to scientific users for pioneering research in physical, chemical, materials, life and medical sciences as well as physics of dense plasmas, warm dense matter, and laboratory astrophysics. Head of Building Infrastructure Department
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated leader to head the Building Infrastructure Department, which is responsible for the reliable operation, maintenance, and continuous development of the Facility’s core infrastructure systems. This role is central to ensuring a safe, efficient, and ISO-compliant environment for high-performance laser and experimental operations.
The successful candidate will lead three core groups: Building Maintenance, Cleanroom Maintenance, and Infrastructure Installations and oversee multidisciplinary teams supporting critical facility functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy: Provide strategic and operational leadership of the Building Infrastructure Department, defining objectives, procedures, and performance indicators to ensure sustainable facility operations.
- Infrastructure Management: Oversee reliable operation, maintenance, and upgrades of critical systems (HVAC, power, cleanrooms, vacuum, gas, environmental controls), ensuring lifecycle management and compliance with ISO and regulatory standards.
- Team & Compliance: Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement while ensuring adherence to codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Collaboration & Stakeholders: Partner with internal teams to meet facility needs and coordinate with external contractors, suppliers, and institutions for effective and compliant infrastructure management.
Essential Requirements
- University degree in engineering, facility management, or related technical fields.
- At least 10 years of proven leadership experience in facility management and human resources management.
- Strong record in managing diverse technical teams and external service providers.
- High command of English (written and spoken), with proven ability to work in an international environment.
- High productivity, commitment to learning, and capacity to deliver under demanding conditions.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in administration of international and national grants.
- Knowledge of innovative and automated facility management solutions.
- Experience in research or high-technology institutions.
- Familiarity with process management systems and implementation of structured governance.
