The Extreme Light Infrastructure ERIC (ELI ERIC) is the world’s largest and most advanced high-power laser research infrastructure. As an international user facility dedicated to multi-disciplinary science, ELI provides access to world-class high-power, high-repetition-rate laser systems and enables cutting-edge research, as well as breakthrough technological innovations. The ELI ERIC operates as a single multi-site organization with two complementary facilities specialized in different fields of research with extreme light: ELI Beamlines in Dolní Břežany (Czech Republic) and ELI ALPS in Szeged (Hungary).
ELI Beamlines Facility operates four cutting-edge high-power femtosecond laser systems reaching unprecedented intensities. The operational laser systems make unique femtosecond sources of X-rays and accelerated particles available to scientific users for pioneering research in physical, chemical, materials, life and medical sciences as well as physics of dense plasmas, warm dense matter, and laboratory astrophysics. The ELI Beamlines Facility employs over 350 researchers, engineers and other professionals from more than 38 countries.
In ELI Beamlines team we are seeking:
DevOps Leader/ Sysadmin (35)
Job description:
lead and coordinate a small DevOps/SRE team responsible for building, operating and improving infrastructure for development, testing, deployment and monitoring of control-system software
cooperate closely with the Solution Architect to implement the technical roadmap, ensure architectural consistency and drive automation initiatives
design, maintain and evolve CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation (Ansible, Terraform, GitOps principles) across development and production environments
manage and modernize infrastructure for containerized workloads
implement Infrastructure as Code and configuration management practices ensuring consistency, traceability and repeatability
contribute to observability, reliability and scalability of control-system and IT/OT environments, collaborate with control-system, experimental and IT/OT teams to deliver robust and maintainable systems, including integration with real-time Linux environments
support daily operations of laboratories and server rooms, plan infrastructure upgrades, and coordinate system improvements
Requirements:
at least 3 years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, or systems engineering roles, ideally with exposure to mixed IT/OT environments
demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience, with the ability to organize a small team and coordinate cross-functional efforts
networking background — VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPNs, network segmentation and service discovery
solid experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Ansible, Terraform) and environment standardization
understanding of CI/CD pipelines, version control and automation tools (e.g. GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
familiarity with monitoring, logging and alerting (Zabbix, Grafana, ELK, etc.)
excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken
