The Czech Centre for Phenogenomics (CCP, https://www.phenogenomics.cz/), a large research infrastructure at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and an active member of the IMPC and INFRAFRONTIER research infrastructures, invites applications for the position of Head of the Transgenic and Archiving Module (TAM).
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced and ambitious scientist to lead one of CCP’s core service and scientific platforms. TAM is a key component of CCP’s model generation pillar and is responsible for the generation of genetically modified mouse and rat models, genotyping, cryopreservation, archiving, and related model delivery workflows supporting advanced biomedical research.
The role
The successful candidate will provide scientific, strategic, and operational leadership of TAM and will play a central role in shaping the next phase of CCP's development. The position is designed for a senior scientist who combines strong technical expertise with leadership capacity, strategic vision, and a commitment to high-quality research infrastructure and service delivery. As a Module Head within CCP’s organisation, the successful candidate will operate at the level of an independent Principal Investigator (PI) responsible for services, outputs, compliance, reporting, and day-to-day module development, while working within CCP’s common strategic, financial, and quality framework.
Key responsibilities
- Develop the long-term scientific vision and strategic roadmap for TAM, ensuring its sustainable growth, scientific excellence, and integration within CCP and international research infrastructures.
- Lead the scientific, technological, and operational development of TAM.
- Oversee high-quality service delivery in rodent model generation, genotyping, cryopreservation, archiving, and associated workflows.
- Manage, coordinate, lead, mentor and support TAM staff and ensure effective planning of capacities, priorities, and daily operations.
- Promote innovation in genome engineering, transgenic technologies, and model generation approaches.
- Drive innovation in genome engineering technologies, including CRISPR-based approaches, embryo manipulation, reproductive technologies, and emerging methodologies for rodent model generation.
- Ensure smooth collaboration with other CCP modules and contribute to integrated project workflows across the full research and service pipeline.
- Participate in planning, reporting, grant development, infrastructure development, and broader strategic activities at CCP level.
- Represent TAM in interactions with academic users, collaborators, service partners, and international research infrastructure networks.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific background in mouse genetics, molecular biology, genome editing, and the generation of genetically modified rodent models. Experience with embryo manipulation, transgenic technologies, genotyping strategies, cryopreservation, rederivation, resuscitation, and colony establishment will be highly advantageous.
The role requires an individual with clear leadership potential or proven leadership experience, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage a complex scientific and service environment. The successful candidate should be able to combine scientific excellence with practical decision-making, team coordination, and a service-oriented approach.
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent in genetics, molecular biology, developmental biology, biomedicine, veterinary medicine, or a related field.
- Proven experience in genome engineering, transgenic technologies, and rodent model generation.
- Strong expertise in mouse genetics and molecular biology; experience with rat models is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or coordinate a team, laboratory unit, or scientific platform.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to develop new methods, contribute to research and innovation, and engage in competitive grant activities.
- Eligibility to work with laboratory animals and awareness of relevant ethical, regulatory, and quality standards.
- Experience with scientific publishing, international collaboration, or user-oriented research infrastructure services would be an advantage.

Contract and start date
This is a long-term position. The initial appointment will be for one year and may be extended based on mutual agreement and successful performance, with the possibility of an indefinite appointment after subsequent extensions, in accordance with Czech labour legislation.
The expected start date is autumn 2026 or by agreement.
